Hand-painted Silk Accessories
White silk is my blank canvas upon which I hand-paint flowers and other natural subjects. My first step is to draw my design on a paper pattern. Many of my designs are drawn from photographs I’ve taken. I paint using the serti technique, wherein a resist creates an enclosed space in which the fiber-reactive dye is allowed to flow. Each accessory is unique and one-of-a kind.
My major works are hand-painted silk scarves and shawls. I use scarves in fine silks such as crepe de chine, chiffon, charmeuse or satin. Scarves are fully hand washable or dry cleanable, your choice. Prices of the scarves are dependent upon size, type of silk and complexity of design.
My work has been juried into the Louisiana Craft Guild. Recently, I attained the status of Master Craftsman with the Guild, having successfully passed three, 3-year juries. I won the Award of Distinction in the Fiber category at the 2009 Covington Three Rivers Art Festival. My work won Alpha Awards in accessory design by the Fashion Group Foundation of New Orleans, Inc. and awards at the Peter Anderson Festival and Jubilee Festival.
I am a regular exhibitor at the Arts Market of New Orleans, generally held the last Saturday of the month.
