Metal
As a professional sculptor for the past 12 years, found object assemblage first piqued my interest in art using old farm implements such as shovels, plow disks and pick axes. My work over time has evolved in many ways but the centerpiece, my signature style, is piercing metal with a handheld plasma torch creating patterns of lace, abstract cutouts and irregular line movements of spectacular line formations.
Typically found objects are given to me by friends, recovered from salvage yards and recycle centers or simply found on the streets in dumpsters. Everything else is fabricated from flat sheet purchased from a metal yard.
I work with aluminum and enamel paint, stainless steel, acid-washed brass & copper and embellish surfaces using sanders and grinders.
Working without prior sketches, I visualize a shape & begin torching. Consequently, many designs are experimental & one of a kind. My work is in the VW Collection in Tennessee as well as corporate collections in Amsterdam, Manhattan, Texas and New Orleans.
