A New Orleans cooperative of Louisiana fine crafts artists; RHINO Contemporary Crafts Company was incorporated in 1987 as a non-profit to help foster public interest in fine Louisiana crafts and provide educational opportunities to the New Orleans community. Artist members created an extensive public education program and opened a fine crafts gallery to exhibit work in all major media, expanding the ability of Louisiana artists to make fine handmade crafts available in New Orleans.
NEW IN RHINO NEWS 1/26/12 - The RHINO “herd” will be “migrating” to the 2nd floor of Canal Place. Just downstairs from our previous location. We are temporarily closed from now until January 31st and re-open on February 1st, 2012. Our Grand Re-Opening Party is scheduled for Friday, March 9th. Stay tuned or check our news/events page for more details.
In the gallery, artist volunteers continue to fulfill their nonprofit mission, conducting working crafts demonstrations and sponsoring public craft exhibits. Artist members are on hand every day at the gallery to provide visitors with information, local perspective, and to offer some of Louisiana’s finest crafts. RHINO sponsors workshops for children and adults, organizes stimulating community events, and has partnered with other nonprofits and arts organizations including The New Orleans Museum of Art, Contemporary Arts Center, the New Orleans Film and Video Society, Kidsmart, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, funding for educational outreach comes from a portion of gallery sales, membership dues, and public and private grants and donations. Your support helps to provide a valuable outlet where local artists are provided with opportunities to expand, network with other artists, and improve their skills. Exposure and outreach promotes the development of Louisiana crafts, enriches the community, and encourages future generations of local crafts artists … Right Here In New Orleans!
